PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA — PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara (Persero) has reinforced its commitment to sustainable palm oil governance by holding a socialization event on the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification. The program, initiated by the Directorate of Research, Development, and Sustainability, was attended by hundreds of employees in a hybrid format from Agrinas headquarters on Thursday (Sept 11).
Baginda Siagian, Director of Palm Oil and Other Perennial Crops at the Directorate General of Plantations, Ministry of Agriculture, served as the keynote speaker. He emphasized that ISPO is not merely a regulation but a national standard designed to keep Indonesian palm oil competitive in global markets.
“ISPO addresses the growing demand for sustainability. It ensures that Indonesian palm oil products are internationally accepted while safeguarding the livelihoods of millions of workers and smallholder farmers,” Baginda stated, as quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com from Agrinas Palma Nusantara (Sept 17, 2025).

From within the company, Rudy Yanto Sirait, General Manager of Upstream Industry Research and Technology, outlined Agrinas’ concrete steps to meet ISPO’s seven core principles—ranging from legal compliance and good agricultural practices to environmental management, social responsibility, and transparency.
“ISPO implementation is not just about paperwork; it’s about embedding sustainability into our corporate culture. Every employee has a role in ensuring responsible cultivation and environmental stewardship,” he explained.
The discussion also addressed external challenges, particularly the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which requires palm oil products to be deforestation-free and fully traceable. In this context, ISPO is seen as a strategic instrument to strengthen Indonesia’s position while countering negative campaigns against the palm oil industry.
Additional support comes from the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP). Acting Head of the Upstream Plantation Fund Distribution Division II, Dwi Nuswantara, explained that as of August 31, 2025, BPDP had issued 152 technical recommendations worth IDR 576.3 billion—comprising IDR 297.89 billion in cash and IDR 278.40 billion in goods. This funding supports ISPO technical verification, issuance of plantation registration certificates (STDB), training in Internal Control Systems (ICS), and certification assistance.
For Agrinas Palma Nusantara, BPDP’s support is crucial to accelerating and broadening ISPO certification, particularly for smallholders.
“ISPO is the pathway toward a more sustainable future for Indonesian palm oil. We aim to set an example of how state-owned plantation enterprises can drive both sustainability and community welfare,” Rudy concluded. (P2)
