Citing Reuters, Malaysia’s palm oil inventories are projected to increase for the fifth consecutive month in July, hitting their highest level in nearly two years as production growth outpaces exports. Stocks are forecast to rise to 2.25 million metric tons, up 10.8% from June, based on the median estimate from a survey of 11 market participants, growers, and analysts.

CPO production is expected to reach 1.83 million metric tons, an 8% increase from the previous month, reversing June’s decline and marking the highest output in a year. The rise in stocks is attributed to a production surge and adjustments to domestic consumption data, according to Anilkumar Bagani, Head of Research at Mumbai-based vegetable oil broker Sunvin Group.

He noted that stock levels above 2 million tons during peak production season are not alarming, especially as Indonesian palm oil exports remain tight due to the B40 biodiesel mandate.
“However, palm oil will face stiff competition from soybean oil originating from South America and the Black Sea region, where harvests have been exceptionally strong this season,” Bagani added.
