PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the country’s energy security remains stable despite escalating geopolitical tensions, particularly the conflict in the Middle East involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

According to the President, Indonesia holds a major advantage in the form of abundant natural resources that can be developed as alternative energy sources. Several agricultural commodities—including palm oil, cassava, corn, and sugarcane—are considered to have strong potential to support Indonesia’s long-term energy independence.

“We have been blessed with abundant natural resources. In the future, our fuel needs will not rely on imports but can come from our own crops—such as palm oil, cassava, corn, and sugarcane,” the President said during the virtual inauguration of 218 bridges across Indonesia on Monday (March 9, 2026).

Energy and Food Security Remain Stable

Beyond energy resilience, President Prabowo also noted that Indonesia’s food security remains well maintained. He explained that strong domestic food resources provide the government with greater flexibility to stabilize energy prices, including maintaining subsidized fuel prices.

This stability, he added, can still be preserved even as global crude oil prices have reportedly surged to above US$100 per barrel.

“We are grateful for the blessings that have enabled us to pursue food self-sufficiency for many years. Even with rising fuel prices globally, we are approaching energy self-sufficiency, and we have already achieved rice self-sufficiency,” Prabowo stated.

During the event, the President also called on the public to remain optimistic in facing global economic uncertainties. He stressed that Indonesia’s rich natural resource base will play a crucial role in navigating future economic challenges.

“I have studied the numbers carefully, and every day we continue to discover new opportunities and resources. We may face difficulties, and I will not hide that, but I believe we will emerge from these challenges stronger, more prosperous, and more self-reliant,” he explained.

President Prabowo also expressed appreciation to regional leaders for supporting national development programs, particularly efforts to strengthen food self-sufficiency.

He noted that strong coordination between the central government and regional administrations is essential to reinforce Indonesia’s position amid an increasingly uncertain global landscape.

“United we are strong, and together we will come out of these challenges in a better position. Thank you, and continue your outstanding dedication,” the President concluded. (P2)
