PALMOILMAGAZINE, SERUYAN – During a coordination meeting held by the Election Supervisory Agency (ESA) in Seruyan Regency on Monday, February 5th, 2024, it was revealed that approximately 19,000 villagers were unable to vote in the election. This was due to some companies failing to respond to official documents from the General Election Commission (GEC) of Seruyan Regency since early February 2024.
Umar Zahid Bustomi, Chairman of the ESA in Seruyan Regency, expressed regret over this situation, as the companies did not provide any feedback to the GEC’s proposals regarding special voting locations (near the companies). Only Batu Ampar and Seruyan Tengah companies responded, resulting in them receiving four special voting locations from the GEC.
These special voting locations were designated for individuals in jail, social housing, rehabilitation centers, as well as employees of mining and plantation companies. This issue is of significant concern, particularly for workers in palm oil plantations located far from other villages, making it challenging for them to vote.
Umar told that these would potentially make issues in the election day. head of District of Hanau, there are 1.331 men having no ID of Regency of Seruyan and would not vote. The total men that would get the impact would be about 19 thousand men and they are mostly working in Seruyan.
To face it, he urged the official in the district to get regulation done firmly. If the villagers that want to vote but do not qualify the terms and condition, they should not vote. “This is about to avoid the possibility to mobilize the mass to the vote spot with many interests,” he said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from Radar Sampit.
He also told that it should get many security officers such as from the police and army around the election spot. They have to be fully supported to face anything possible. (T2)
