PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – The Geophysics, Climatology, and Meteorology Agency (GCMA or BMKG) is widely recognized as a key source for the latest information on Indonesia’s climate, weather, and geophysical conditions. Beyond these areas, GCMA also serves as a critical reference in preparing for natural disasters, such as earthquakes.
GCMA plays an essential role within the government, providing expertise across these three sectors as well as in monitoring air temperatures. A core mission of the agency is to deliver accurate and reliable information to the public. This was highlighted by Siswanto, Chairman of GCMA’s Air Quality and Climate Information Production Management Team.
Siswanto shared that recent analyses indicate a significant rise in average temperatures in 2023 compared to previous decades. Monitoring this marked climate shift remains a priority, as he emphasized during a workshop attended by Palmoilmagazine.com at GCMA’s headquarters on Monday, October 14, 2024.

GCMA would be significant as the trustable source of information not only for the journalists but also the public namely in the context of global scale – warming. The journalist workshop was conducted by GCMA, as the way to deliver deeper understandings for the public about the available roles and information through mass media.
