16 Innovators and Institutions Driving Plantation Transformation Win Medbun Awards 2025

PALMOILMAGAZINE, BANDUNG — Promoting the spirit of collaboration and innovation to strengthen the independence of the plantation industry, the Medbun Awards 2025 serve as a platform to recognize individuals and institutions deemed to have made significant breakthroughs and positive impacts in this sector.

The awards are presented to innovators and institutions that have demonstrated exceptional dedication and contributions to the development of the national plantation sector, particularly the palm oil industry. The event was held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the Holiday Inn Bandung Pasteur in West Java.

This year, the awards were given to 16 recipients in various categories, ranging from Highest Oil Extraction Rate (OER) Producer, Smart Palm Oil Mill Technology, to Palm Oil Mill Executive Trainer.

In his keynote remarks, Ir. Mukti Sarjono, M.Sc., Chairman of the Media Perkebunan Advisory Board, commended the consistency of Media Perkebunan in honoring excellence within the plantation sector. He emphasized that such appreciation is vital for driving innovation and professionalism in the palm oil industry—a key pillar of the national economy.

“This second Medbun Award reflects Media Perkebunan’s appreciation for outstanding individuals in the plantation industry, ensuring the continued advancement of the palm oil sector,” said Ir. Mukti Sarjono. He also expressed hope that the event would foster leadership growth in various areas—from technology, seed development, pest control, to education—ultimately enhancing the sector’s human resource quality.

Hadi Dafenta, Head of Organization, HR, Legal Affairs, and Public Relations at the Directorate General of Plantations, emphasized the urgency of transformation in the face of fast-paced information.

“The plantation sector, especially palm oil, faces growing challenges. We hope Media Perkebunan continues to thrive as a reliable partner in delivering accurate and timely news about the industry,” he said.

Dr. Karyudi, a member of the Medbun Awards 2025 jury panel and expert board at Media Perkebunan, shared his aspirations for stronger linkages between education, R&D, and industry players.
“Palm oil contributes significantly to the nation’s foreign exchange earnings. In 2024 alone, it generated around USD 28 billion. Since 2006, Indonesia has outpaced Malaysia as the world’s leading palm oil producer. The award recipients today can rightly be called national foreign exchange heroes,” he noted.
