PALMOILMAGAZINE, PONTIANAK – The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) continues to push the availability of superior seeds to boost food production and strengthen the sustainability of the plantation sector. This commitment was highlighted during a visit to the Agricultural Modernization Implementation Center (BRMP) in West Kalimantan on Saturday (August 23), focusing on the provision of upland rice seeds suitable for intercropping in plantations such as oil palm, coconut, and other commodities.

Acting Director General of Plantations, Abdul Roni Angkat, noted that the demand for upland rice seeds across Indonesia, including in West Kalimantan, is significant. He underscored the role of BRMP Kalbar in supporting seed supply for intercropping systems on plantation lands while complying with existing regulations.

“Beyond upland rice, BRMP Kalbar is also expected to contribute to the supply of plantation crop seeds, such as oil palm and coconut, which are key commodities in this region,” Roni said, as quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com from the Directorate General of Plantations’ Facebook page, Tuesday (August 26, 2025).

Head of BRMP Kalbar, Anjar Suprapto, affirmed readiness to support the program. “BRMP Kalbar is fully committed to the success of the upland rice planting initiative on plantation lands as part of efforts to achieve national food self-sufficiency,” he stated.

The delegation also visited CV Tunas Indo Perkasa, an oil palm seed breeder, to ensure the readiness of seeds to be distributed to participants in the Smallholder Oil Palm Replanting Program (PSR).

On this occasion, Abdul Roni reiterated the importance of distributing high-quality oil palm seeds to farmers. “The seeds provided must have a clear origin and proven quality. Farmers must not be disadvantaged by receiving substandard seeds. The success of plantations, including oil palm, starts with good seeds,” he emphasized. (P2)
