PALMOILMAGAZINE, KUBU RAYA – Sujiwo, Regent of Kubu Raya, underscored the importance of collaboration among government, businesses, and local communities to ensure the palm oil industry delivers fair and sustainable benefits. He made the remarks during the 5th Indonesia Palm Oil Smallholder Conference and Expo (IPOSC) in Kubu Raya, West Kalimantan, on Thursday (Sept. 25, 2025).

According to Sujiwo, palm oil is a strategic commodity that attracts significant attention but is often underestimated. “Palm oil is a magnetic commodity—wherever it appears, it draws attention. Unfortunately, some still turn a blind eye to its positive contributions to Indonesia, especially at the regional level,” he said, as quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com.

He emphasized that forums like IPOSC should serve as platforms for building communication, interaction, and concrete collaboration among farmers, cooperatives, companies, and the government. By doing so, he noted, each party’s rights and responsibilities can be understood collectively, helping to reduce potential conflicts.

“Companies must acknowledge their responsibilities, the government must do the same, and communities should recognize both their rights and obligations. If these three elements work with a principle of mutual benefit, what emerges is a partnership that strengthens rather than undermines one another,” Sujiwo explained.

The Regent also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting investments in Kubu Raya, viewing palm oil companies as valuable regional assets. “I will stand firmly in support of the business sector. Investments in Kubu Raya are government assets. Palm oil companies contribute through regional revenue and job creation, and that is something we must safeguard together,” he stressed.

Sujiwo expressed hope that cross-sector collaboration in the palm oil industry will not only solidify Indonesia’s position as a leading global producer but also ensure that its benefits are felt directly by local communities. (P2)
