PalmOilMagazine, JAKARTA – Greenpeace International in Stop Baku Tipu: Sisi Gelap Perizinan di Tanah Papua reported the violation assumption about plantation license and forest release system in Papua Province in 2011-2019. It nearly reached one million hectares of forests in the province released since 2000 or almost twice more than Bali Island. Most of the release is about to develop palm oil plantations. By 2019 based on Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), there have been 168.471 hectares of natural forest in Papua Province conversed to be palm oil plantations. The numbers would be more as same as forest release and plantation license increase.
