IPOA Papua Branch, Representative of More Than 200 Thousand Hectares of Oil Palm Plantations

PalmoilMagazine.com, PAPUA – The 11th National Conference of Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA) in Bali would inaugurate IPOA branch Papua, as the latest membership in the stakeholders’ organization. It would represent palm oil plantations in Papua where it consists of 5 new provinces.

Luwy Leunufna, who works at Tunas Sawa Erna Group thought that palm oil plantations in Papua Province really contribute to the people’s economy. “Mostly palm oil plantations increase and encourage the people’s economy,” he said to PalmoilMagazine.com recently.

He continued that the plantations in Papua laid about 0,001% compared to the natural forests in Papua.

Data from Ministry of Environment and Forestry in 2020, Papua had more than 34 million hectares of forests while palm oil plantations laid about 200 thousand hectares.

"It means, palm oil plantations laid only about 0,001% compared to natural forests that laid about 34 million hectares in Papua," he said.

Luwy also mentioned, palm oil plantations encouraged to improve and escalate the people’s welfare for they are still in difficulties until now.

Luwy hoped that regional and central governments together with palm oil stakeholders encourage palm oil to develop the economy in Papua. The collaboration among many parties would encourage more better lives for the people of Papua. “So that the people of Papua would live better in the future,” Luwy said. (T1)
