InfoSAWIT, NUSA DUA –General Secretary of Asosiasi Petani Kelapa Sawit Indonesia (Apkasindo),Rino Afrino said, the partnership among the stakeholders in palm oil is very important including to develop the people’s areas.
Rino continued, the future challenge faced by the smallholder is how to cultivate palm oil to increase the productivity. He said, of the total palm oil areas in Indonesia, 52% belong to the big plantation companies, 7% belong to the government, and the rest, 41% belong to the smallholders.
“They might do better cultivation, such as, the areas are used to be palm oil industry. We know that palm oil plays important role to conquer the poverty and develop the remote areas,” he said in the release to InfoSAWIT, Thursday (2/11).
But the people’s palm oil areas have to be improved, such as, the areas are found in the wrong allotment, the lack of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), the postponement of replanting program, the weak institution.
He said too, the smallholders need to understand the obstacles. They should get many trainings that may be done by the government and the big companies. “The better cultivation is hoped to empower the strategic position of palm oil industries, namely to conquer the poverty,” he said. (T1)
