The History of Cargill Tropical Palm Ltd. in Indonesia

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - Founded for almost one and a half century, precisely in 1865, Cargill Inc., that its headquarter in Minneapolis, United States of America now develops to be the global company in 65 countries whole over the world, including in Indonesia.

As the producer and food and agricultural product company, Cargill Inc., has regulated its operational by four principles in the first place.


The principles are running integrated business, implementing the responsible chain of stock, becoming the economic pillar for the society, and cooperating to fulfill the food needs in the world. Through the four principles, Cargill Inc., agreed not to damage the environment so that the world could be for the next generations.


The company, having about 142 thousand employees in the world has been operating in Indonesia since 1974. It started its business by constructing small scale woof factory in Gunung Putri, Bogor, West Java Province.


In the recent days, for almost four decades, Cargill Inc., in Indonesia grows fast. If it was operating woof factory, now the American company has developed its business in agribusiness sector and other products.


Cargill Inc., in Indonesia has powder, butter, cocoa factories. It has bean a soybean supplier, doing trade of raw sugar, sugar, ethanol, and developed palm oil plantation to produce crude palm oil (CPO).


In 1995, Cargill Inc., officially acquired PT Hindoli in Sungai Lilin, District of Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatera province. When PT Hindoli was acquired, there was no main palm oil plantation for the company agreed to develop plasma areas for the smallholders in the first place.


The plasma areas reached about 17,6 thousand hectares while the main areas reached only 9,5 thousand hectares. Though the plasma areas were larger than the main areas, the company was not difficult to get the stock of fresh fruit bunch (FFB).


But in 2013, PT Hindoli enlarged its new palm oil areas in Village of Mukut, District of Banyuasin, South Sumatera. The total areas of the company in the province reached about 20.958 hectares.(T2)
