Indonesia Should Replant 5 Percent in a Year of the Total Plantation

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA –Director of PT ASD Bakrie Oil Palm Seed, Andi W. Setianto predicted, in every year, 5% of the total palm oil areas should have replanting program. So there should be about 600.000 hectares of 12 million hectares to get the program.

So it needs about 120 million seeds to run the program. The numbers were smaller than those that had been sold recaching 750.000 seeds in 2016.

This makes the productivity in Indonesia is minimal still. There are lots of palm oil tree more than 25 years old and many planted uncertified seeds that make small productivity.

He also said, the average production in Indonesia just reach 3 tons per hectare. “The worse is that the smallholders’ is about 2 tons per hectare,” he said as quoted from Kontan.
