70 hectare of Palm Oil Areas Belonging to PT ASN Were Officially Cut off

InfoSAWIT, SINGKIL -Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (BKSDA) Aceh supported by Forum Konservasi Leuser (FKL) cut off palm oil areas belonging to PT. Agro Sinergi Nusantara (ASN) in the peat forest of Sanctuary of Rawa Singkil, precisely in Sub district of Trumon Timur, Distict of Aceh Selatan, Aceh Province on28 November 2017.

Head of BKSDA Aceh, Sapto Aji Prabowo said, the cut off was supported by the Police of Aceh Selatan and Police Department of Aceh and done in 70 hectare area that PT. ASN enlarged in the conservation.

“The total of Rawa Singkil that PT. ASN enlarged reached 340 hectares while the palm oil trees are cut off,” he said, Tuesday (28/11/17).

Of the numbers, he continued, the reforestation would be done in about 100 hectares. The rests would be abandoned to grow naturally. The planting (reforestation) would be done by Orangutan Information Center (OIC) within the local plantation.

The illegal enlargement in Sanctuary of Rawa Singkil keeps happening, namely done by the people. BKSDA Aceh keeps approaching them so that the planting would not happen again and again. “Including to increase the human resources and the people knowledge,” he said, as quoted from mongabay.

Meanwhile, the representative of PT. ASN, Zulfikar who attended when the cut happened, said, the company did not protest it. After measuring the areas, the company admitted to plant in the sanctuary of Rawa Singkil. “We obey the regulation and get what has been decided,” he said.(T3)
