InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA –As the commitment to the environment, PT Kayung Agro Lestari (KAL), the subsidiary of PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya (ANJ) Tbk., provides some of their concession to make high conservation area and to be the place for orangutan. It is like to combine palm oil plantation development and the mother nature.

70 kilometers from downtown of District of Ketapang, it is the concession areas of PT Kayung Agro Lestari (KAL), precisely in Sub district of MatanHilirUtara,District of Ketapang, West Kalimantan. Palm oil plantation of the subsidiary of PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya (ANJ) Tbk., is easy to get by four wheel vehicle. It takes two hours to get there. It is relatively safe to get there though there are some bad infrastructures for being old.

Based on the company, palm oil plantation of PT KAL is the acquisition of the location permit done by PT ANJ Tbk., in 2009. In the same year, the company enlarged the areas and planted palm oil trees in 2010.

“If it is seen with bare eyes, the palm oil plantation is not different from the other. But if walking deep into the plantation of PT KAL, there will be something unusual.

It will be clear if seeing the palm oil plantation from Kelampai Tunggal hill, one of the highest hill in the plantation where it is not planted by palm oil. PT KAL built a hut, kind of ‘saung’. It is a good place to get rest and it also functions as the place to see the fire.

From the hill, some spots of plantation could be seen in the original hilly area. There are some spots too as the high conservation areas though not every hill could be seen from the spot for the limited sight.

PT KAL has about 17,9 thousand hectares of area – 3.844 hectares become the conservation. The main plantations lay about 9.816 hectares, the partnership plantations lay about 2.830 hectares and the enclave areas lay about 1.330 hectares.

Senior Estate Manager PT KAL, RidwanDamanik, said, his side did not cultivate some spots to be palm oil plantation for the company agreed with the DayakTolakSekayo, from Village of LamanSatong, Village of LamanKepayang, and Village of Nekdoyan. “Enclaves of some hills are to maintain the local wisdom and local culture, including to maintain the grave of the ancestors of the tribe,” he recently said in MatanHilir Utara.(T2)
