InfoSAWIT, BUENOS AIRES – Indonesia keeps protecting its food security nationally though the permanent solution on Public Stockholding for Food Security Purposes(PSH) is not agreed yet. Secretary of Trade, Indonesia, Enggartiasto Lukita told it after the Ministrial Conference in the World Trade Organization (WTO) on 10-13 December 2017 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
“Though there is not permanent solution yet on PSH, Indonesia still has the strong food security nationally,” he said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Friday, (15/12/2017).
The permanent solution is not realized yet because United States (US) rejected the proposal of PSH. In the conference, USA was the only one member rejecting it.
On the other hand, there are much needs on agricultural issues. In the conference about PSH, there was a text draft that is hoped to be the basic to discuss in the next conference.
Meanwhile, the same happened in the Special Safeguard Mechanism(SSM) discussion. In the working session about the mechanism to solve the increasing import and price depreciation, there was no conclusion to have solution.
The needs on the permanent solution on PSA and SSM had been vocalized by the G-33. One day before the WTO Ministrial Conference started, on Saturday (9/12), there had been Ministrial Conference of G-33 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The conference was led by Indonesia to consolidate the members of G-33 about the PSH and SSM to be discussed in the 11th WTO Ministrial Conference in the next day.
For having no permanent solution on PSH, the members would refer to the previous agreement in Paket Bali, that was, the interim solution. But the discussion about permanent solution on PSH would be taken in Jeneva, after the Buenos Aires Ministrial Conference. But, Secretary Enggar appreciated the same commitment of G-33 that struggles for the food security and SSM. (T2)
