Calculating the Water Surface in Peat

InfoSAWIT, JAMBI –The implementation of water surface about 0,6–0,8 meter (m)according to Regulation of Secretary of Agriculture No.14/2009  should be the reference in the water surface to publish Government’s Regulation No.  57/2016. “Water Surface, 0,6–0,8 m would be more applicative for it has been tested by the experience and researches in palm oil plantation for tens of years,” Head of Infrastructure, and Plantation Protection, Plantation Agency, Jambi Province, Dr. Asnelly Ridha Daulay, said in Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in  Jambi, Monday (18/12), in the official statement to InfoSAWIT.

He also mentioned, the water surface about 0,6–0,8 m is proven to be better and could support palm oil productivity. “I am sorry to know that the water surface, all of a sudden, came from nowhere to be 0,4 m without scientific study. It has been decided without involving Ministry of Agriculture. This makes the regulation hard to inform,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Masyarakat Perkelapasawitan Indonesia (MAKSI), Darmono Taniwiryono suggested, Government’s Regulation No. 57/2016 should be scientifically done and should not be equal to every kind of plantation. “The water surface, 0,4 meter could be for seasonal plants for they have short roots. While palm oil, the ideal water surface is 0,6–0,8 m,” he said. (T2)
