Palm Oil Still Develops though The Economy in East Kalimantan Might be Stagnant

InfoSAWIT, SAMARINDA -Head of Financial and Economy Advisory Team, Indonesian Bank, East Kalimantan Province, Harry Aginta said, the prediction of the stable coal price and tends to be stagnant could influence the economy for it is the main pillar of economy in the province. So Harry said, the provincial government should run the agenda of economy reformation if the province would not depend on coal anymore.

The trend of economy in the province kept decreasing last year. For example, in the first quarter 2017, it developed 3,9%year on year (yoy), but in the second quarter it became 3,6%. It happened too in the third quarter to be 3,54%.

These are the reasons why his side is pessimist that the economy in East Kalimantan could develop better if still relying on coal. Besides, the exports decreased to some countries. “China decreased to import coal to be used for consumption. India even rejected it,” he said, as quoted from Prokal.co.

Meanwhile the industry that might be positive to develop is palm oil plantation. He also mentioned, this year there will be new factories. The reason is the abundant stock of palm oil in the province. (T2)
