Disappointed by the Salary Mechanism, Employees of PT SPMN Stopped Working

InfoSAWIT, BOGOR – About 700 palm oil workers  (employees) that consist of harvesters and nurses in PT. Sarana Prima Muti Niaga (SPMN) demonstrated and stopped working on Monday (12/2/2018). They refused the salary mechanism that PT. SPMN did. The workers claimed, the salary mechanism was less than the minimal salary.

“The salary that we got was about Rp 1,5 million. Some harvesters even got Rp 700-800 thousand only,” a worker who joined the demonstration said.

In the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Tuesday (13/2/2018), PT SPMN implemented theTop Upsystem to multiply the minor of the salary of the workers. But the workers claimed, the Top Upsystem did not guarantee that they got the same numbers of salary with the minimal salary.

Executive Director ofSawitWatch, Inda Fatinaware said, the demonstration of the workers in PT SPMN was an eveidence that the palm oil workers have not better lives still. “The targets of illogical work and fine are the common situtation and condition in palm oil plantation in Indonesia. The government should do many things to protect and guarantee the workers’ rights in Indonesia. One of them  is by publishing the regulation to protect their rights,” she said.

Specialist Staff ofSawit Watch, Zidane thought, the salary system in target – base that PT SPMN did was a loss for the workers.  “The salary system in target – base just like in PT SPMN also runs in palm oil plantation in Indonesia. If they did not get the target, the salary would be less than the normal payment,” he said.(T2)
