InfoSAWIT, PUTRAJAYA –After deciding to run sustainable palm oil cultivation certification in its own scheme, that is, Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO), the result showed that there are few palm oil plantation companies in Malaysia getting MSPO certificate. As quoted from nst.com.my,there would be efforts to give incentive, such as, audit cost help given by Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).
According to the government of Malaysia, until now, from about 4,5 million hectares of the total palm oil areas in the country, only about 245.381 hectares of 22 palm oil factories getting MSPO certificates. Secretary of Commmodity and Plantation, Datuk Mah Siew Keong, admitted, it is hard to realize that every plantation could be certified because of some issues.
But he knew, MSPO certificate would be in long term prospect because of the competitiveness in palm oil industries in the country. In addition, the Amsterdam Charter that obliges every palm oil user in Europe in 2020 to use full sustainable palm oil would be chance for sustainable palm oil in the future years. (T2)
