InfoSAWIT, KUALA LUMPUR – If Indonesia has Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO), Malaysia hasMalaysian Sustainable Palm Oil(MSPO). The MSPO certification scheme has been running since January 2015 voluntarily and would be mandatorily done by the end of December 2019.
According to the official information from MSPO Secretariat to InfoSAWIT, the palm oil plantation companies that have been certified by other schemes, such as, RSPO and ISCC should get the MSPO certificate at least on 31 December 2018.
While the companies having no RSPO and ISCC certificates should get MSPO certificate at least on 30 June 2019. The smallholders both independent and organized should get MSPO certificate on 31 December 2019.
To get MSPO certificate faster, the government of Malaysia has given financial helps to the smallholders and the factories. This is to facilitate to get MSPO certificate and help them to minimize the fund to get it. “MSPO certificate is nationally implemented and it becomes the branding base of sustainable, safe, and healthy palm oil in Malaysia in the future,” MSPO Secretariat claimed.
