To know the Contents of Presidential Regulation about the Sustainable Palm oil Standard

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA -Since in the midst of 2016, many things have been done to strengthen the sustainable practices which are summarized in the regulation Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO), such as, through discussion and dialogue.

Two groups from developmental and environmental contributed to empower the sustainability in Indonesian version. The discussion and dialogue were held in many regions in Indonesia, such as, Jakarta and Bogor, and public consultation in Sumatera, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua Regions.

 

But after March to the end of 2017, the dialogue to strengthen ISPO seemed to come to an end. No reason why it happened. This urged the Civil Society Group for Sustainable Palm oil Industries finally urged 30 social and environmental non-government organizations to remind the government to be transparent and active to empower the ISPO policy.

 

Apart from the right news or not, at least, based on the Presidential Regulation about Sustainable Palm Oil Certification System that InfoSAWIT got in January 2018, here are the contents of the Presidential Regulation Draft:

 

Chapter II discussed about the Spatial, Goals, and Principles of ISPO, that is in Paragraph 2 that noted, the spatial of Presidential Regulation covers ISPO Certificate, management, the acceptance and market competition, fund, and sanction to be given.

 

Paragraph 3 noted, the making of ISPO has goal to, the first, ensure and increase the management and development in palm oil plantation based on the principles and criteria in ISPO which is marked by compliance of the stakeholders to the regulations.

 

The second is to contribute to increase the social, economic, cultural, and quality of environmental development through sustainable palm oil plantation management.

 

The third is to increase the acceptance of product and competition in palm oil plantation in Indonesia in the local, regional and global markets. The fourth, to contribute about the commitment of the government to decrease green- house gas emission which is regulated in Intended Nationally Determine Contribution (INDC).

 

In Chapter III about ISPO Certification, based on paragraph 5, it noted that ISPO Certificate is an obligation to do to the business , such as, (a) palm oil plantation cultivation which is integrated with the processing business; (b) Palm oil Plantation Cultivation; (c) Palm oil Plantation Processing Business that runs Processing Activity. Every ISPO Certification to the palm oil plantation company is done by the palm oil plantation company.

 

While Paragraph 5 article 2, noted that ISPO certification to Plasma Plantation Business should be done in group and become part of responsibility of Palm oil Plantation Company that becomes the main company.(T2)
