UNDP Supports the Smallholders’ Empowerment

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA -  What the government does to increase the smallholders productivity is also supported by United Nations through United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Panama. There is  Good Growth Green Commodity Project to help  them to increase the smallholders’ empowerment and productivity.

Managing Director, Good Growth Green Commodity, UNDP, Pascale Bonzom, explained what the institution has done to empower the smallholders in Indonesia. He thought, the fund program reached about US$ 6 million to US$ 9 million. It was helped by UNDP to develop the smallholders in producing sustainable palm oil.

“We were successful to help them to get Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) some time ago in Riau Province. The independent smallholders really need help to increase the best and sustainable cultivation,” Pascale said.

The involvement of United Nations through UNDP, she thought, is part of the big work to ensure that the independent smallholders get better lives. “We help the people, namely the independent smallholders who still need helps and development so they can develop sustainable products in the global markets,” Pascale said.(T1)
