InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - The government, private companies, and smallholders also pay attention to conserve the forest and the areas by making cooperation with many sides, such as, with UNDP (United Nations Development Programme).
National Platform Manager, UNDP Indonesia, Rini Indrayanti explained that it needs to empower the smallholders’ capacity to support the sustainability of the palm oil industries in the future. UNDP and the Ministry of Agriculture have made Forum Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan Indonesia (FoKSBI) to make sure the sustainability in palm oil itself.
“FoKSBI has formulated the national action plans drafts or rencana aksi nasional (RAN) which concludes the development of smallholders’ capacity. RAN which was arranged by multi-side stakeholders is now waiting for the agreement from steering committee to get the clear and laws,” Rini explained. The program in UNDP is also implemented by palm oil plantation company, such as, Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food within its Desa Makmur Peduli Api program.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Perkebunan Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food in West Kalimantan, Susanto Yang, explained that the company tries its best to take the people around to implement no fire – cultivation.
The company also does multi-side collaboration in West Kalimantan province, for example, with the government and the local people. The company takes the people to participate to keep the nature good by not cutting the trees in the forest and not firing the areas to enlarge the plantation.
Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food takes the people to participate and to cultivate their areas to be organic plantations. The result from theirs could help them to fulfill their own needs, like it is done in the province.
