InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – After passing some phases, finally, in the Sustainable Financing Business Modelcompetition, the final judging was done in Aloft Hotel, Jakarta. The competition was fully supported by Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
On Thursday (16/8/2018) three winners were chosen from the students who participated in the competition. In the previous days, the competition was launched on 23 May 2018. The students whole over Indonesia proposed their ideas about “Sustainable Financing” that could be adopted by financing sector, namely in palm oil sector, and its chain of stock.
For information, financing sector has important roles, not only in its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in United Nations, but also as it had been studied in the latest research, it was revealed that the company within the good social and environmental standards, would have better performance. The important roles in financing sector are regulated by Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK) by publishing regulation, POJK No. 51/2017 about Sustainable Financing.
Director of RSPO Indonesia, Tiur Rumondangsaid, the main goal of the competition is to get the lates ideas, good business model to the Sustainable Financing and could be adopted by the companies, or financing institutions to give the better support to develop sustainable palm oil companies positively in Indonesia.
“For Indonesia is the biggest sustainable palm oil producer globally, we think, it is important to involve the young generations in Indonesia in the sustainability issue. They are the future who would become the leaders in the sustainable development,” she said in Jakarta.
In the future, the sustainable financing program could be put to the strategic economic sector to support the economy nationally namely palm oil industries because they are the important contributors for Indonesia.
In the competition, the students from Universitas Prasetya Mulya were the winners.. Arief Ghani, the representative of Universitas Prasetya Mulya, said, the competition gave new perspective abouut the good ways to sinergize the business and the social and environmental aspects. “We do hoped, through the initiative, there would be more students involve to the important issues, such as, sustainability,” he said.
In the final competition, the committee chose 6 finalists to tell, describe their proposals and finally, there were three winners. The finalists were from Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada, andUniversitas Diponegoro.
After describing their proposal, the judges from RSPO, Bank of DBS Indonesia, and BRI Agro asked them. The winners in Sustainable Financing Business Model got total price reaching Rp 50 billion.(T2)
