InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA -It is admitted that the palm oil trees in Jambi are getting old and they need replanting program. The plantations which were planted in 1980s become the learning process to develop the plantations done by the companies and the people around.

The social and the environnment become the focus to develop palm oil plantations since they were enlarged. It is normal that many stakeholders depend on the cooperation with the local government and the people when enlarging.

Though there were many issues to face, palm oil plantations in Jambi have become the mainstay to develop the region. Palm oil plantations are the second largest areas after the people’s rubber plantation. But the production is the biggest of other commodities, including, the rubber.

That is why, Jambi develops fast because the provincial government supports to develop palm oil plantations. They are developed by the plantation companies and the people as the smallholders.

According to Governor in duty, Jambi Province, Fachrori Umar, the provincial government really supports palm oil development. One thing that has been done is by making partnership between the plantation companies and the smallholders.

The Plantation Agency, Jambi Province does cooperation with the related agencies in the districts, through the whole development to the business units in the districts, and city.

“Until now palm oil development has become the pillar of economy for the people in Jambi. The harvest of the smallholders and the companies becomes the source of life for many people in this province,” Fachrori said.(T2)
