Partnership, The Solution to Increase the Smallholders’ Productivity

InfoSAWIT, PEKANBARU – The independent smallholders’ productivity is small in numbers still, reaching 16-18 tons of fresh fruit bunch (FFB) per hectare per year. If in average, the FFB could produce about 1,5–2 tons of crude palm oil per hectare per year. Yet the yield is less than 20%.

Department Head of Partnership and Smallholder, PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk., Tidar Bagaskara said that in the Konferensi dan Expo Kemitraan Petani Kelapa Sawit (Perkebunan Inti Rakyat) in Pekanbaru (19/9/2018).

The old trees are the factors of the small productivity. Besides, he continued, what makes the unstandard cultivation are the infrastructure and unwell transportation management.

So PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk., develops the partnership scheme which is adjusted to the smallholders’ condition to increase their productivity. “Astra Agro is competent enough to increase the smallholders’ productivity,” Tidar said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT.

He thought, every competency in Astra Agro could be developed for the people. “Within the concept of partnership in Astra Agro, the smallholders could enjoy it,” he said.

In the end, the competency would support the process success of increasing productivity. The unions and the smallholders could get the advantages of the partnership.

Riswanto, Chairman of KUD Karya Mukti said, “The smallholders grow from the partnership. It makes us (the union and smallholders) more powerful.” His side is helpful from the plantation cultivation. “The KKMT program helps us to manage the transportation, namely when there were lots of FFB,” he said.
