Moratorium Should be the Solution to 8 Issues to the Smallholders

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – On Wednesdday (19/9 /2018), the government officially published Palm oil Moratorium which is summerized in President’s Instruction No. 8 / 2018 Postponement and Evaluation of Palm oil Plantation Moratorium, and the Palm Oil Plantation Productivity Enhancement or Penundaan dan Evaluasi Perizinan Perkebunan Kelapa Sawit, serta Peningkatan Produktivitas Perkebunan Kelapa Sawit and signed by President Joko Widodo.

About the decision, the smallholders joining in Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS) hoped that it could be the solution for 4 issues in palm oil industries nationally.

Chairman of SPKS, Mansuetus Darto said, there are 8 points hoped so that the smallholders could advantage the policy that would run for the next three years. They are, the first, the legal of the smallholders’ areas could be solved.

The second, social conflict should be ended. The third, the (independent) smallholders should be in data. The fourth, the sustainable governance should run by making the revitalization of the smallholders’ institutions.

The fifth, develop the good and fair cooperation between the smallholders and the factories. The sixth, review and audit the troubled license. The seventh, the FFB price should be same between the independent and plasma smallholders. “And the eight, support and accelerate the credible and responsible ISPO standards,” he said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Friday (21/9/2018).(T2)
