InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - Working as planter may not be favorite job anymore. One reason is that someone should work in the remote areas. For the young planters, they may not be able to face loneliness, be away from the crowded, and far from telecommunication.
Besides, it is not a favorite job because of worker competition from the foreign countries. Many palm oil plantation companies hire the expatriate although the quality of the professional planters in Indonesia could compete with the expatriate.
From the concern, and the young generations do not want to work as planters, the planters in Indonesia agreed to make Indonesian Planters Society (IPS).
Chairman of IPS, Zulham S Koto said, IPS was made as the concern of some planters to make a professional institution. There is no institution which gathers and unites the planters to discuss about their profession.
While in Malaysia, there has been Incorporated Society of Planters (ISP) which becomes the institution for the planters. It has been running for about one century.
He continued, for IPS has been made, the Indonesian planters could be in synergy to develop their professionalism and contribute to increase the work in plantation sector in this country. “The planters are the spears of the work in plantation industries,” he recently said.(T2)
