InfoSAWIT, NUSA DUA –Deputy Coordinator Ministry in Food and Agriculture, Coordinator Ministry in Economy, Indonesia, Musdhalifah Machmud said, Indonesia now strengthens the policy of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) to prove that this country contributes to develop the quality of environment, economy, and social; increase the acceptance and competition both in domestic and international markets. Strengthening ISPO is also done with the stakeholders and non-government organizations (NGOs).
She said, ISPO would be regulated in the form of President’s Regulation. The system could show the sustainable management from the people to the industries and could be increased.
In its relationship with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), there are 4 aspects and 8 principles and criteria in ISPO, such as, legal, social, economy, culture, and environment.
While the eight criteria to measure are legal of plantation business, plantation management, protection and forest and peat advantage, management and supervision of environment, responsibility to the labor, responsibility and empower the local community’s economy, increasing the sustainable business, and trace of chain of stock. “The eight principles contribute to fulfill the targets in SDGs,” she said in the 14th Indonesia Palm Oil Conference in Nusa Dua, Bali where InfoSAWIT also attends.
Meanwhile Chairman of ISPO Secretariat, Aziz Hidayat told that the standard in ISPO is the policy to support the agenda in SDGs in 2030.
Some points are taking every people out of poverty and hunger; increase the quality of health, education, and welfare; the ability and clean energy; the worth job and economic, industrial, innovation, and infrastructure progress; reduce the social gap; responsibility to consumption and production activities; climate action; and partnership and collaboration to realize the goals.
In the chance, Azis also said that until now, ISPO has had 15 certification boards within the auditors reaching 1.470 men. Based on the statistic, in 2013 – 2018, the total companies and smallholders getting ISPO certificate are 413 covering, 407 to the companies, 3 plasma smallholders, and 3 independent smallholders.
