The Smallholders’ Replanting ProgramThe Smallholders’ Replanting Program Increases The Welfare and Stops The Their Area Expansion

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA -Director of Palm oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA) Herdrajat Natawidjaja explained that the smallholders’ replanting program (SRP) is for the smallholders having less than 4 hectare – area. It is to increase the production and in general, it is to increase their welfare.

He also mentioned, it is hoped to prevent the new palm oil plantation expansion. It is assumed, the new area expansion may be done by cutting the forest that could damage the environment.

So the replanting program is urgent to do for the smallholders’ productivity is small in numbers, reaching 2 – 3 tons of CPO per hectare per year. It is much smaller than it produced by the private companies. This happened for their plantations are old and some of theirs might be planted by fake seeds.

He also mentioned, the SRP is the same program with the government which Coordinator Minister in Economy manages together with Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial/National Land Agency, Riau Province, District of Rokan Hilir, and some districts in Riau, and PFMA.

For information, the smallholders joining the program should fulfill the legal area but for those who could not fulfill the conditions, the preparation would be helped. One notice is that the replanting program should be done in sustainability principles, such as, it is done in the location and the enlargement should fulfill the conservation perspective, implement the best and sustainable and environmental cultivation, and also institutions.

“To guarantee the sustainable practices, the participants of the program are obliged to get Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certificate in the first harvest,” Herdrajat said.

For information too, in 2018, the government through Ministry of Agriculture targets the program reaching 185 thousand hectares. It would be done in 75 districts/cities in 20 provinces. In a whole, the replanting program would cover 2,4 million hectares in every region in this country.(T2)
