Analyzing the Problems in Plasma Plantation Development in Papua

InfoSAWIT, PAPUA – President’s Staff did visit work to District of Merauke, Papua Province, on Thursday (13/12/2018) to see palm oil industrial development there and to get the solution of the issues.

After making coordination meeting in the office of Regent of Merauke, Iwan Nurdin from the President’s Staff office through Tim Percepatan Konflik Agraria (TPPKA) said, his side got the report that plasma plantations are slowly developing there. Some companies also said that the plasma plantations could not be developed for the accusation to make deforestation.

TPPKA did work visit to the district because there is a concern that social conflict could happen because plasma plantations are not developed yet. “We are worry that there would be social conflict because there was promise to develop (plasma) for local people,” he recently said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT.

Iwan Nurdin also said that the other goal was to seek the reason why  the plasma is not developed yet. “The plasma plantation is the obligation in the regulation of plantation,” he said.

In the coordination meeting, Iwan emphasized that his side would do what it takes to accelerate the process to avoid the agrarian issues in the future.

Meanwhile, Tulus Sianipar who represents Korindo Group said that his side welcomes what TPPKA would do and would always obey every regulation in Indonesia.

To follow-up the meeting, there would be next meeting with Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the company, the people, the regional government, and every related instance to accelerate and realize the whole development that the people need of. (T2)
