Developing Palm Oil Plantations in Kalimantan is Different from it in Papua

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - Palm oil plantations develop fast in Indonesia. It is no question that for years, there are many new palm oil plantation companies. Some of them are in the exchange to be the open ones. One of them is PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya, Tbk., (ANJT).

Actually, the company belonging to the Tahija has been operating since 1993 and become an public company in 2013. The company has main plasma areas about 155 thousand hectares while the planted ones reaching 51 thousand hectares (main and plasma). It means, it has much time to develop the company in the future.

Of the total areas, the widest ones are in Papua Barat. Palm oil development hits the environment issue. Luckily ANJ has a female figure. She is Istini Tatiek Siddharta who is now the Director of the company since 2016.

Istini said, palm oil  development is not same in every region. For example, in Kalimantan and South Sumatera, palm oil could be developed by acquiring.

But in Papua Barat, it is different. Papua is now as conservation areas. So the model to develop palm oil would not be the same as it is in Kalimantan or South Sumatera.

In Papua, there should be more approach and taking the people to develop the good agribusiness industries and develop their economy.

“We are committed that palm oil is developed by developing one third of our conservation areas. This should be discussed with them, from the village to provincial level,” she recently said in Jakarta.(T2)
