InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) which is mandatorily done has certified the plantations about more than 3 million hectares. Based on 2018 data from Ministry of Agriculture, 467 ISPO certificates had been published and given to the planters.
In 2018 the certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) having RSPO certificate could be produciing about 12,43 million tons. 52% of the numbers derived from Indonesia or 6,5 million tons. The numbers were not about the productions having ISCC.
For information, ISPO is the system of certificate that the government mandatorily obliges to the planters, including, the smallholders. Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) are the systems of certificate which are voluntarily done.
According to Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA), Indonesia is as the biggest palm oil producer in the world because Indonesia successfully produced CPO reaching 42 million tons in 2018.
The success was not from the upstream sector only but also the downstream sectors got the significant progress. For example, the exports from Indonesia, more than 30 million tons, were the downstream products, within the mainstay one was Refined Bleaching Deodorized Olein (RBD-Olein).
The achievement had something to do with the trade strategy that used fiscal instrument to postpone the progress of CPO exports. In a short time, Indonesia could develop the upstream to downstream industries and become the number one vegetable oil producer.
The strategy of CPO Supporting Fund (CSF) that Palm oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA) runs is one strategy too. Through the institution, the strategy to develop palm oil industry runs to lead the making of additional value from CPO in Indonesia.
President Joko Widodo also appreciated the success of palm oil industrial development nationally in the event of IPOA in the end of 2018. President Joko Widodo himself urged to develop the industry to get more profits in the domestic.
Chairman of IPOA, Joko Supriyono thought that palm oil contributes to the country, and the people. One example is that by developing the downstream industry as bioenergy that is good for the environment.
“Palm oil should be developing to give more profits to the exchange of the country, social to the people and better envirnment,” Joko said in the Palm oil Discussion for the Nation Volume 2 within the theme “Peningkatan Peran BPDP Kelapa Sawit dalam Pengembangan Sawit: Minyak Sawit Sebagai Bio-Energi” in the Hotel Akmani, Jakarta, Wednesday (9/1/2019).
Director of Bioenergy, Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conversion, Andriah Feby Misna said, palm oil as bioenergy keeps running by developing biodiesel.
He continued that the government keeps improving to increase palm oil biodiesel absorption by mixing 20% of biodiesel to diesel based on what the government has mandatorily decided. “The strategy to absorb palm oil biodiesel is done by improving the infrastructure, building the stations to mix biodiesel and expanding the B20 usage,” he said.
Andriah also said, the palm oil for biofuel is developed in three groups, they are, palm oil biodiesel itself, developiing the green fuel, and the third is CPO power plants. (T2)
