InfoSAWIT, NEW YORK – Ministry of Trade, through General Directorate of National Export Development kept making chance and facilitation for the stakeholders to increase the trade agreement with others, and it was done in United States of America (USA).
It was done by running business matching in the office of General Consulate of Indonesia in New York, USA, Thursday (17/1/2019). “Business matching was one effort to strengthen the partnership and collaboration with USA, and to make equal trade balance between both countries,” General Director of National Export Development, Arlinda said when telling her speech to about 100 participants, in the official statement to InfoSAWIT.
She thought, USA is one big export country from Indonesia for years. There are more American companies investing in Indonesia in the last one decade. The trade between the two increased for the last five years. In January – October 2018, the total trade got better 12,6% reaching US$ 23,9 billion. USA supplied soybean, cutton, wheat, chopper to Indonesia while Indonesia supplied the materials for their industries, such as, shrimp, rubber, palm oil, tire, and footwear.
12 Indoensian stakeholders did participate in the business matching running palm oil, steel, sea-food, wheat, cutton, textile, tire, and coffee. In the busines matching, Minister of Trade, Enggartiasto Lukita was also as the speaker to the American stakeholdes and they were enthusiastic to do it.
In the session, the American stakeholders had opportunity to discuss about trade and investment issues. They also got information about the tax relief and market in Indonesia.
Business Forum and Business Maching in Washington DC
Before the business matching in New York, Ministry of Trade also did Business Forum and Business Matching in the Embassy of Indonesia in Washington DC, USA on Monday (14/1/2019).
The Minister of Trade opened the event and more than 100 stakeholders from the two countries attended it. In his description, Minister of Trade told that Indonesia wanted to have good two direction – trade and investment and sustainable economic relation with USA as the most strategic partner. When the tension of trade and debate increase which lead to polarized thought, Indonesia emphasized to involve positively and constructively with USA.
“There are lots of advantage to get by strengthening the relationship between both countries rather than re-making action that would be a loss for the good relation between the two countries. Besides this would be the 70th diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and USA,” Enggar said.
He also hoped that the government of USA and the American stakeholders should see Indonesia as the believeable partner. The business matching itself was attended by 14 Indonesian stakeholders in palm oil, aluminum and steel, seafood, soybean and wheat, cutton and textile, coffee, car tire, and gold and jewelry. There was a signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Indonesian and American stakeholders to buy high quality soybean, and distiller’s dried grain with solubles (DDGS) up to 1,6 million metric tons.
