Riau Makes the National Action Plans to Sustainable Palm Oil

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – As one province where the widest palm oil plantations (about 21%) operate and contribute about  27% to the crude palm oil (CPO) production in Indonesia, Riau seriously arranges the provincial action plans or Rencana Aksi Provinsi (RAP) to support the sustainable palm oil  practices.

The RAP would be implemented in 12 districts and cities, they are, Pelalawan, Bengkalis, Indragiri Hilir, Indragiri Hulu, Kampar, Kuantan Singingi, Rokan Hilir, Rokan Hulu, Siak, Kepulauan Meranti, Dumai, and Pekanbaru. The RAP would emphasize the coordination among the institutions, fund access, law enforcement, the strategies to increase the planters’ capacity and the replanting program.

Head of Plantation, Riau Province, Vera Virgianti said that there are almost 1,3 million hectares of palm oil plantations in the province and they are still put in complete data to be parts of the RAP to develop the sustainable palm oil plantations.

It is important to be the base to make intervene about its sustainable development in the future. “We also realize that every issue needs the cooperation and support from the others, such as, the forestry, the labor,” she said in the workshop in Jakarta, Monday (25/2/2019) and InfoSAWIT attended too.
