The Livestock Areas Are the Main Factors of Deforestation, not Palm Oil

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – By the end of 2018 palm oil plantations in Indonesia were in mass because of what Greenpeace did, a non – profit organization internationally which claimed that some big palm oil plantation companies in Indonesia violated their commitment to protect the forests.

The investigation claimed by Greenpeace International revealed that 25 plantation groups cut off 130.000 hectares (ha) of forests since 2015. About 40% of the deforestation (51.600 hectares) are in Papua, Indonesia – one island having the biggest conservation in the world and where many palm oil industries were not operating.

What Greenpeace claimed showed that palm oil could be the main and single factor of the deforestation in Indonesia and in the world. As a matter of fact, it is not true yet.

In its cultivation, it could be assumed that few may cultivate the plantation out of the procedures. But it could not be the reference to say that palm oil is the main factor of the broken forest in Southeast Asia.
