InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Actually the independent smallholders in District of Labuhan Batu, North Sumatera has the union. But it does not operates well and many members of the union should sell their fresh fruit bunch (FFB) to the collectors.
One of them, Surya said, one palm oil factory has been operating, next to the smallholders’ plantation. “But for there is no good communication with the factory, we are difficult to sell our FFB,” he recently said in an event in Jakarta.
For information, the FFB in the collector has different gap about Rp 160/kg with the factory. If the factory buys about Rp 1200/kg, the field (collector) buys it about Rp 860/kg.
Many collectors buy their FFB because the smallholders could not fulfill the conditions in the factory. “We are also not developed in the cultivation process,” Surya said. (T2)
