INFOSAWIT, PEKANBARU – Director of Yearly Plantation and Freshness, General Directorate of Plantation, Ministry of Agriculture, Irmijati R. Nurbahar said that the palm oil plantation sectors have proved to be the biggest contributor to the exchange.
“This is a pride and the history for the plantation sectors in Indonesia to compete and have sovereignty,” she said in an event in Hotel Pangeran, Riau where InfoSAWIT did attend.
She also mentioned that plantation sector has something to do with the smallholders (farmers) as the group which also cultivates it. Of many smallholders’ associations, Asosiasi Petani PIR-Trans (Aspekpir Indonesia) comes up and it is hoped to be the organization that could lift up the dignity of the smallholders. “Furthermore palm oil sectors still face many challenges,” she said.
She also suggested that every smallholder’s association in Indonesia could be in synergy and cooperate, but not to advance its group. “This is the real effort from the smallholders to get the best solution in facing the challenges,” Irmijati said. (T2)
