InfoSAWIT, TSUKUBA – Indonesia encourage G20 to improve the global economy and trade digitalization. Minister of Trade Indonesia, Enggartiasto Lukita said when leading the delegation of Indonesia in the Ministers of Trade Meeting of G20 on 8—9 June 2019 in Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan.
"The Meeting of Ministers of Trade is important to make agreement about G20 to reduce the global trade tension and make positive signals for the business in the world within the strong political support to increase the function of World Trade Organization (WTO). The agreement would be the response from the decreasing economy globally because of the trade war between China and the United States of America,” he said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT.
He continued that the agreement would be the input for the leaders of G20 in the G20 Conference on 28—29 June 2019 in Osaka, Japan.
Besides, there are three messages from the President of Japan in the G20 Forum in this year. The first is it needs to cooperate among the members of G20 in trade and investment to achieve the goal of increasing economy globally. The two are the main factors to increase the productivity, innovation, and employment. The second is to make the best regulation about subsidy in industries; and the third is it is important to lead the reformation in WTO.
According to Enggar, Indonesia noticed that the reformation in WTO is important to recover the multilateral system trade and return the credibility of WTO. “The main focus and priority is about dispute settlement mechanism and the recovery of Appellate Body. Increasing the negotiation function should be focused on the unsolved issues in Doha, such as, agriculture, fishery, and special and differential treatment," he said.
In G20 conference, the digital trade issue would be discussed for the first time. The members of G20 thought that the digital transformation has important role to make chance and challenges in the nowadays trade. (T2)
