InfoSAWIT, ULTRECT – Chairman of Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS), Mansuetus Darto was the speaker in the routine meeting that I Amsterdam Declaration Forum did on 14 June 2019 in Ultrect, Netherland at the local time.
SPKS attended the forum because of direct invitation from the members of Amsterdam Declaration to tell the real condition of the smallholders in Indonesia. In the opportunity, he also took that the palm oil buyers from the European Union countries to take real role to increase the capacity and empowerment of the smallholders in Indonesia.
In his description he said that the many smallholders in Indonesia have 1 to 4 hectares (ha) of palm oil plantation. They live in the villagers or around the plantations, depend on the harvest, their main source of living is farming, cultivate their plantation independently or with family.
“They mostly have no food areas and no legal areas, such as, the certificate. Few of them cultivate in the forestry regions and peat. Their fresh fruit bunch (FFB) is mostly sold to the middlemen in cheap though the factory is around their plantations,” he said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT recently.
The representatives of the European Union countries, the buyers from Europe, the representatives of Netherland, international and Indonesian NGO, and the representatives of Indonesia attended the meeting. (T2)
