InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The national meeting of Asosiasi Petani Kelapa Sawit Indonesia (Apkasindo) also discussed the fresh fruit bunch (FFB) price produced by the smallholders which tends to decrease.
“The government, both the central, province, and district/cities should pay attention to the FFB price and should not continue (to be cheaper),” Chairman of Apkasindo, Alpian Arahman said.
This would be the burden for the smallholders. In addition, it is about Rp 750/kg. If it continues, they could not afford to buy the fertilizer. “In the end the next year production would be smaller in numbers and they would be worse,” he said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Monday (8/7/2019).
He also mentioned that the government has published the Regulation of Minister of Agriculture or Peraturan Menteri Pertanian (Permentan) No. 01/Permentan/KB.120/1/2018 about the Guidelines to Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) Price Produced by the Planters. This really helps the smallholders. But the field facts revealed that the factories break it. “They (the factories) intentionally make price discount. They break the regulation and the regional government may not control it,” he said.
The regulation is the serious evidence of the government to protect the planters (smallholders) so that their FFB has normal price and avoid the bad competition among the factories. But many regions do not apply it. “The regional government is slow and less serious to respond the regulation and this weakens the bargaining position of the smallholders,” he said.
The slow socialization in each region influences the welfare of the smallholders and the FFB price gets cheaper. “For Apkasindo, the Regulation of Minister of Agriculture No. 1 / 2018 is right enough as the guideline to decide the FFB price. It needs socialization proactively by involving the stakeholders,” Alpian said. (T2)
