Smallholders’ Replanting Program is Moment to Manage Plantation Governance

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA –  The Smallholders’ Replanting Program (SRP) is not about substituting  old or fake trees to be the new ones by using  certified seeds but it is about to develop  new foundation for  the people’s palm oil plantations.

It was told in the national seminar within the theme, “Seriuskah Program Peremajaan Sawit Rakyat?” Peremajaan Sawit Rakyat Solusi Peningkatan Produktivitas Sawit Nasional” in Jakarta.

According to Minister of Agriculture in 2000 – 2004, Prof. Bungaran Saragih, by running the SRP, there are lots of to improve not only increase the people’s plantations.

It is hoped that the SRP could be the moment to improve the people’s plantation governance. “So don’t think micro but macro,” he said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Wednesday (10/7/2019).

He also hoped that by the SRP, every issue in the people’s palm oil plantations could be immediately improved and would no more in the future.

“I noticed that this is one strategy to synchronize the central government and the regional government. This is why the president himself directly did it to improve the issues so that the people’s palm oil plantations could be more sustainable and have better class,” Bungaran said.

Meanwhile the Secretary of General Directorate of Plantation, Ministry of Agriculture, Antarjo Dikin said the same. Running the SRP means that there are lots of to be improved.

The facts showed that the people’s palm oil plantations since 1980s were developed in the abandoned and difficult as the agricultural areas. But it is proven that after 30 years, the people get the advantages, they get better lives. “Those who had no vehicle, now have it as what the officers have. They can go on a pilgrimage. Everything is from palm oil,” Antarjo said. (T2)
