InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Until now the target of Smallholders’ Replanting Program (SRP) that Palm oil Plantation Fund Management Agency supports in 2019 reaches 200 thousand hectares, while the technical recommendation for the people’s palm oil plantations reaches 33 thousand hectares.
Plantation observer, Gamal Nasir said that many smallholders’ plantations are old enough. This urges to do SRP to increase their productivity and to give advantages for them. It is proven.
According to General Directorate of Plantation, Ministry of Agriculture in 2017, of the total palm oil plantations about 12.307.677 hectares, 4.756.272 hectares belonged to the people or smallholders.
The numbers drastically increased compared to those in 1979 or since the people’s palm oil plantations were developing. The total palm oil plantations laid about 260.939 hectares only and the smallholders had about 3.125 hectares. The numbers kept increasing in every single year. “It means, the SRP is difficult to do if it is not serious,” he said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Wednesday (10/7/2019). (T2)
