InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Palm oil plantation as the full employee – industry could hire direct workers up to 4,2 million and 14,3 million of indirect workers. While the palm oil plantations cultivated by the independent smallholders could hire 4,6 million men.

Besides since 2000 palm oil sector in Indonesia has helped 10 million men out of poverty because of the factors in its expansion. At least, 1,3 million men in the villages were out of poverty directly because of palm oil.

“The regions where palm oil plantations are developed dominantly have better economy than the others. This showed that the palm oil industries contribute to realize the sustainable development goals (SDGs). It means we are in the same path with United Nations to welfare the people,” Coordinator Minister in Economy Darmin Nasution said in a seminar in Jakarta in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Wednesday (31/7/2019).

From its productivity, palm oil could produce 6-10 times more than other commodities, such as, soybean having 0,4 ton/hectare (ha) of productivity, the sunflower has 0,6 ton/ha of productivity, the rapeseed oil has 0,7 ton/ha, while palm oil has 4 ton/ha.

“This is not about right or wrong. This is about unique that R&D does not run in other commodities, such as, rubber and coconut which the people mostly have  and cultivate it,” he said.

The exchange from palm oil and its derivative exports reached US$ 20 billion. “These are the truth. It is not a toy,” Darmin said. (T2)
