The Imports to China Drastically Increased, the CPO Exports from Indonesia Reached 10%

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – In the first semester of 2019 the palm oil exports (CPO and its derivative, biodiesel and oleo-chemical) increased 10% only compared to the same period in last year or from 15,30 million tons in January – June 2018 increased to be 16,84 million tons in the same period in 2019.

Executive Director of Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA), Mukti Sardjono said that the increasing exports could be more but some trade barriers made the exports not maximal.

The export volume, especially CPO and its derivatives (not biodiesel and oleo-chemical) in the first semester 2019 increased 7,6% or from 14,16 million tons in January – June 2018 to be 15,24 million tons in the same period in 2019.

The export volume from Indonesia, especially CPO and its derivative in the first semester of 2019 decreased to almost every main exporter countries, except China. In the first semester of 2019, China booked CPO and the derivative imports (not biodiesel and oleo-chemical) reached 39% or from 1,82 million tons in January – June 2018 to be 2,54 million tons in the same period in 2019.

“The increasing demands from China happened for the trade war with United States of America (USA). The country decreased to trade soybean significantly and substituted it with palm oil,” Mukti said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT.

The exports from Indonesia, namely CPO and the derivatives in the first semester of 2019 to European Union were stagnant or increased 0,7% only or from 2,39 million tons in January – June 2018 to be 2,41 million tons in the same period in 2019.

In the other side, the export volume from Indonesia, especially CPO and the derivative in the first semester of 2019 to India decreased 17% or from 2,5 million tons in the first semester of 2018 to be 2,1 million tons in the same period of 2019. The decreasing exports took place in USA reaching 12%, Pakistan 10% and Bangladesh 19%. (T2)
