InfoSAWIT, KALTENG – The students from Teluk Pulai, Sub district of Kumai, District of Kotawaringin Barat, Central Kalimantan (Kalteng) were excited to commemorate the World Mangrove day on 26 July 2019 by joining the Kegiatan Edukasi Konservasi dan Pembibitan Mangrove that the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Bumitama Gunajaya Agro (BGA) BGA Group did.
Though they are in the remote areas because they should use ship to reach the city, the students from Elementary and Junior High School of Satap, Village of Teluk Pulai really do care about the ecosystem for they live around it.
The CSR team of BGA Group did Kegiatan Edukasi Konservasi dan Pembibitan Mangrove for the students who are developed in the concession areas of PT Andalan Sukses Makmur (ASMR), one subsidiary of BGA Group. It was joined by tens of students. The material of education was directly given by seeing the mangrove seeds and the visual help tool, such as, picture.
After the material was showed and given, the students got knowledge about mangrove seed, the Rhizophora sp. BGA Group also donated 500 mangrove seeds as the learning media to them. To increase the quality of knowledge of the students, BGA also donated packet of book and reading books, and writing tools.
As the first step, the shore rehabilitation was done with every villager of Teluk Pulai in phase, starting from 2015 - 2016 by planting mangrove seeds about 10.000 trees. Until 2018, they planted 15 thousand trees.
CSR Department Head, BGA Group, Agus Wiastono said that the company really supported to rehabilitate the mangrove areas in Teluk Pulai and this is the same with the regional government’s program to prevent the ecology damage. “The company provided the areas about 160 hectares to rehabilitate mangrove,” he said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT recently.
The third planting of mangrove was on 30 April 2018. It was joined by the leaders in Sub district of Kumai and attended by the Secretary of Sub district of Kumai, Commandant of Kumai, Police of Kumai, Region Head 3, Staffs of CSR HO, and Area 5, Staffs of Sustainability, Staffs Partnership, and the villagers of Sekonyer, Teluk Pulai, and employees of PT ASMR.
