The Platform of Trase Encouraged the Transparency of Palm oil Governance in Indonesia

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The senior researcher of Trase, Romain Pirard in a discussion in Corruption Eradication Commission (CEC) said that the accusations about deforestation, the broken peat, the fire, the smoke, the land issue, the climate emission, and others about environmental damages to palm oil industries would keep running especially from European Union.

The discussion was attended by three commissioners of CEC, they were, Basaria Panjaitan, Laode M. Syarif, and Saut Situmorang. Romain told that the platform of Trase could be useful for CEC. Some of them could be the references to decide the prior regions (intervention) of CEC about the natural management to reduce the lost for the government (state lost), optimize the income for the country, and efficiency to tax acceptance. “And also to the traceability of the beneficial ownership in the investigation,” he said as InfoSAWIT quoted from the official page of CEC.

Vice Chairman of CEC, Saut Situmorang said that the cooperation may take place knowing that CEC has unit works that focus to improve the governance in the regions. “CEC could help to cooperate with the related ministry and instance by Korsupgah,” he said.

Trase that could be accessed through is the initiative to clarify the understanding about the supply chain that may be risky to deforestation. It is about the mapping of chain supply of palm oil in Indonesia that uses the data about palm oil flow from the exporters and importers. The platform would focus to make transparency in the chain supply, namely palm oil in this country.

It is hoped that the initiative could encourage to develop the commodity in the sustainable area – base by giving the better perspectives to the government, the private, and the people.

The future data of Trase about palm oil in Indonesia would provide neutral and general description that could be accessed by seeing the work of every sector, and company, the grower, jurisdiction, the imports for years.

These would help the companies to identify the risks in the chain supply and directly interact with the traders, producers in the platform, like it is running in soybean in Brazil and other commodities. And also help the others to supervise their works. (T2)
