InfoSAWIT, KUALA LUMPUR – In the recent days, the non-profit organization that focuses to sustainable practices, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) released the Impact Report 2019. The report noted that the numbers of independent smallholders getting RSPO certificates increased 52% and the numbers of the smallholders did too up to 165% from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019.
The other important report was the smallholders getting RSPO certificate in Africa also increased up to 56%. In the global perspective, the total areas having RSPO certificate are more 22% than those in last year (2018) which reached 3,89 million hectares in 16 countries within the production volume reaching 14,29 million metric tons of certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO), and 3,21 million metric tons of certified sustainable palm kernel (CSPK). RSPO also confirmed 19 members of new smallholders during the last financial year within the total, 171 smallholders in the organization on 30 June 2019.
Chief Executive Officer RSPO, Datuk Darrel Webber hoped that the increasing numbers would always happen, namely from the independent smallholders as same as the realization of the new regulation in November 2019. “We believed that the numbers would be more,” he said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Wednesday (30/10/2019).
