InfoSAWIT, BANGKOK – The members of Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) has run the sustainable palm oil commitment.
But CEO RSPO, Datuk Darrel Webber when inaugurating the 17th Annual Meeting RSPO (RT17) in Bangkok, said that it is the time for RSPO to do action in solution – base, that is the solution to share markets.
It means, he continued, that the palm oil producers thought, they have worked and implemented sustainable palm oil practices. Unfortunately their hard work is not acceptable by the buying in the markets. “Not many consumers want to pay or appreciate their (the producers) hard work. The producers thought that the consumers do not admit theirs,” he said.
He also said that the palm oil consumers thought that the palm oil producers have kinds of willing, and are still lack of the sustainable practices. If this always runs, it is the time for the consumers and producers to discuss it.
The consumers said not to use RSPO brand because there is no demand in the market. He who was a marketer and sales said that the process could make the consumers accept the new products.
It could be done in the supermarket trade context. The branded products would be placed in the left shelter because the consumers are used to see in the left side then to the right side. That is why the sustainable products would be put in the same thing. “For the buyers could be led logically and modify the emotion in certain ways or the products could be placed near the casher,” Darrel said.
So it is no excuse for the buyers (consumers) not to buy sustainable palm oil products. He felt sorry why the retailers tend to make the products within ‘palm oil free’ label.
It is the time for every side to cooperate and run together to make the sustainable palm oil as the norm by changing the commitment to be real action. (T2)
